في هذه الدراسة يسلط الأستاذ الدكتور عبد اللطيف حمودي الطائي الضوء إلى ما تعرض له الأدب الجاهلي من التشكيك في صحة الرواية الشفوية، والطعن في شخصيات الرواة. ويختار "حمَاد الرواية" ومروياته وأخباره موضوعاً للدراسة.
وحماد الرواية، هو كبير رواة الشعر العربي والجاهلي، الإسلامي كان يمثل إحدى اهم قنوات الرواية، التي وصل عبرها الشعر العربي من عصر ما قبل الإسلام إلى عصر تدوين الشعر، وصنع دواوين القبائل، ودواوين الشعراء، والمجاميع الشعرية.
وحماد الرواية هو أول من اختار القصائد (المعلقات السبع)، وباسمه اقترنت، ومع ذلك يتهم بالكذب والوضع والنحل، ويرمى بأنه يلحن ويكسر، ومروياته تتفاذفها الأمواج بين الرفض والقبول، ولم ينصفه إلا قليل من الباحثون.
هذا الحال هو ما دفع مؤلف الكتاب إلى وضع دراسة جمع فيها كل التهم والأحكام التي رمي بها حمَاد؛ والوقوف عندها وقفة علمية متجردة من كل شيء، بل أكثر من ذلك. السعر لمحاكمة تلك النصوص واستنطاقها وصولاً إلى معرفة الحقيقة منها.
