لقد قطعت الرواية في منطقة الخليج العربي أشواطاً طويلة صوب خلق مشهد إبداعي يمتلك شروط التعبير عن هوية المرأة في هذه المنطقة. وفي ضوء ذلك قمت بدراسة نصوص لاثنتي عشرة روائية هن: بدرية البشر، وبثينة العيسى، وبشائر محمد، ورجاء عالم، وسمر القرن, ومريم آل سعد، ومريم مسعود الشحّي، ومنيرة سوار، وميس العثمان، وفاطمة الشيدي، وفاطمة المزروعي، وهدى عواجي. وقد حاولت قراءة الهويّة الأنثويّة وهي تلج عالم المتخيّل الروائي للتعبير عن ذاتها ورؤيتها لصور العالم الذي تعيش فيه المرأة الخليجيّة بوصفها أنثى. إن مفهوم "الكتابة الأنثويّة"، الذي انتصرتُ له في هذا الكتاب، يحتاج إلى بناء نظري يرتبط بكيفية وجود الهويّة الأنثويّة في مفاصل الكتابة السّردية. لذلك فإن المقدّمات النظريّة مهمّة للدخول إلى متون النصوص بحثاً عن حضور الأنوثة الساردة وهي تعيش صراعها مع المحيط، مع الجسد، مع الخارج، ومع السلطة الذكوريّة. بصورها القامعة والمرغوب فيها في آن. وقد جاءت المخيّلة الأنثويّة الخليجيّة. بتمثيلات روائية مُتَخَيَّلة فيها متسع من الوفرة التي تمكِّن الباحث من مدّ العلاقة بين المنهج والتطبيق إلى تخوم قراءة جديدة تتجاوز المملّ والباهت.
