سنة ثمان وأربعين اضطر قريب من سبعمائة ألف فلسطيني إلى الهجرة من فلسطين واللجوء إلى الأقطار العربية المجاورة، أو إلى المناطق التي بقيت محررة من فلسطين مثل الضفة الغربية وغزة. اضطروا إلى الهجرة من الوطن على عجل تحت الأخطار التي كانت محدقة بهم، فالمعارك الدائرة بين العرب والصهاينة، ثم المجازر التي ارتكبتها فيما بعد العصابات الصهيونية لم تترك لهم الوقت الكافي ليتدبروا أمر هجرتهم، فهاجروا تحت دوّي القنابل وأزيز الرصاص بأقصى ما يمكنهم من عجلة، فمن تعجل منهم نجا، ومن أدركته ويلات المعارك والمجازر. وعلى هذه الصفحات يروي الكاتب بكثير من الواقع وقليل من الخيال، قصة هجرة أسرته من يافا كما يمكن لطفل في السابعة من عمره في ذلك الوقت أن يتذكر أحداثها. وذلك إسهاماً منه في توثيق قصص هجرة الفلسطينيين.
