"ماري شلي" هي مؤلفة هذه القصة المترجمة عن الأدب الإنكليزى وهي الابنة الوحيدة للمفكر البريطاني وليم غودوين والكاتبة الإنكليزية ماري ولستون كرافت. ولدت ماري شلي في لندن العام 1797، وتلقت في معاهدها تعليماً خاصاً التقت الشاعر الإنكليزى برسي بايش شلي في أيار مايو 1814، وفرت معه إلى فرنسا وبعد ذلك تزوجته، وفي عام 1822 توفي زوجها، فقررت العودة إلى إنكلترا، وكرست نفسها لنشر أشعاره وتعليم ابنهما الوحيد. وتعد رواية فرانكنشتين من أشهر أعمالها، وهو يعتبر إنجازاً مميزاً لفتاة في العشرين من عمرها، وقد لاقى هذا العمل بعد صدوره في العام 1818 نجاحاً شعبياً باهراً، وهذا ما دعى المنتجين لنقله إلى شاشة السينما مرات عدة، وإلى تقديمه على خشبة المسرح.
