يدخل هذا الموضوع ضمن الدراسات التى تتوخى البحث عن هوية شعراء العربية في مختلف العصور، إنطلاقاً من نوعية ثقافاتهم والملابسات الحضارية والسياسية والثقافية التي تحكمت في تكوينهم وشكَلت نتاجهم وطبعته بطابعين متكاملين:
1- طابع البيئة التي نشأ الشاعر فيها وتثقف وتفاعل مع أحداثها وأنتج ما شاء الله أن ينتج.
2- طابع البيئة العربية الإسلامية التي تتكامل في شخصيته، وبالتالي في فكر وأدب وشعر كل عربي مسلم مهما ابتعد إقليمية وحاصرته ظروف سياسية وطبيعية خاصة. وإبن الجياب الغرناطي أحد هؤلاء الذين تصدق فيهم الثنائية السابقة، فقد تشكلت ثقافته وتنوع إنتاجه بموضوعاته وخصائصه، حيث يشكل ديوانه المخطوط صورة من شخصيته وخصوصياته الإبداعية، مضموناً وشكلاً ومنهاجاً، أو الأشعار التي تناثرت بين دفاتر المصادر الأندلسية بشكل خاص، لذلك جمع المؤلف في هذا الكتاب منها ما أضاف مادة جيدة لديوانه المجموع الذي خضع بدوره لتحقيق متنه وتصحيح رواياته بالمظان التي وقف عليها.
وهكذا تأتي هذه الدراسة موزعة على مقدمة ومدخل وبابين وخاتمة وملحق: تحدث المؤلف في المقدمة عن دواعي إختيار الموضوع وأهميته، تناول في المدخل قضية الكشف عن مصادر شعر ابن الجياب المخطوطة والمرقونة والمطبوعة.
وخصص الباب الأول للحديث عن عصر الشاعر وحياته ونتاجه.
أما الفصل الثالث فقد خصص لنتاجه الأدبي، النثري، والشعري.
أما الباب الثاني من هذا البحث فقد عقده للحديث عن موضوعات الشاعر وأغراضه، مثل شعر المدح، والشعر الديني.
أما الباب الثالث فقد خصص لدراسة البناء الفني لشعر الرجل، وألحقت بهذا البحث ملحقاً مفهرساً بأشعار ابن الجياب التي لم ترد في ديوانه، جمعها من خلال عدد من المصادر التي إهتمت بشعره ورتبها بعد تحقيقها.
