في مجموعته القصصية "جواسيس القلوب" يبدو إبراهيم الزنيدي سارداً من داخل الحكاية، سارداً مشاركاً، وهو أحد الأبطال، أي أنه راوٍ له دوره في كل قصة، إذا صح التعبير، لذلك فهو سارد يسهم في اللعبة، والنوايا التي يضمرها هي التي تتكشف عن صحة مواقفه، وهو بهذا ينشأ نوعاً من العلاقة مع القارئ فيخاطبه قائلاً: "أبحث عن الفكرة والشعور والقصة التي لا أعرفها، وطريقي يسير بي بين المدن والحضارات، يهمس بكل لحظة تعب عن المعنى الذي تحيا داخله القصص، لذا كتبت لأعيش، فعشت لأكتب".
في هذه المجموعة قصص عديدة إجتماعية وواقعية تتكئ على بيئة محددة عربية، تبدو فيها إهتمامات الراوي والشخوص وتطلعاتهم وأحلامهم وأفكارهم، فكانت شخوصه هي ذاتٌ وموضوع في نفس الوقت، تتدفق مشاعرهم تدفقاً عفوياً، ويفعل ذلك الزنيدي من خلال تكنيك رومانسي يتجه إلى عوالم الشخصيات الداخلي، وبث ما يدور في خلدها، ولا يحفل العالم الخارجي هنا إلاَّ بما يُحفز كل شخصية إلى الإرتداد لذاتها وذكرياتها وزمنها الحالي.
لنقرأ هذا المقطع من قصة "الرجل خلف خريطة العالم" يقول الكاتب: "في وصف الشخصية القصصية "مهزوماً ومدمراً ومشتت الفكر وممزق الوجدان تنزف مشاعره كجرح الموت وهو لا يقوى على الحراك، يحاول حث جسده على النهوض من كرسي الإنتظار بمحطة القطار، وسياط وعيه الآتية للتو من الغفلة صارت تأكل جلد إحساسه متفجرة كألم بلا ثواب"...
من عناوين القصص نذكر: 1-قبل الحبكة، 2-خبز بالزبدة، 3-كائن الكون، 4-الرجل خلف خريطة العالم، 5-حلم البرتقال، 6-ملعقة السكر... إلخ.
