لأن ذاكرة الإنسان لا تحتفظ بأفكارها كما تفعل الكتابة، يبدأ الدكتور حسان نجار / الرئيس الأسبق في اتحاد الأطباء العرب في أوروبا، بسرد ذكرياته على الخط الفاصل بين الحياة والكتابة، حيث تشكل الحياة الشخصية والمهنية للكاتب محور كتابه "ذكريات وخواطر" وهي كتابة تنزع نحو تحريك الصور الدالة والمواقف المعبرة التي تحيل إلى أحداث واقعية ومسائل مجتمعية، تنتمي إلى هذا الزمن، وقد بدا فيها السارد، ما عدا كونه طبيباً لامعاً، شخصية مفكرة، تستطيع أن تكتب وتتحدث في قضايا ساخنة، وبأبعاد مختلفة منها العلمي، ومنها الإجتماعي، ومنها السياسي، حيث يتوقف الكاتب عند الأوضاع الراهنة الجارية في بلاده (سوريا)، في عملية استرجاع وتذكر لسياسات النظام مع النخبة المفكرة في البلاد "أدخلت إلى غرفة تحقيق أخرى وطبعاً معصوب العينين (...) وكان عليّ هذه المرة أن أقصّ على اللجنة الأمنية تاريخ حياتي من الألف إلى الباء دون تعليق ..." ، وهكذا يسجل الدكتور نجار ذكريات، فيها المر، وفيها المفرح، وفيها من ساهم في تكوينه ونجاحه، بدءاً من مرحلة الطفولة، مروراً بمرحلة الشباب، والدراسة خارج حدود الوطن وممارسة المهنة، وصحبة رفاق الدرب، وجلّهم شخصيات معروفة، ومن انتماءات وأطياف مختلفة، معروفة في الوسط الإجتماعي السوري والعربي، والدولي أيضاً، يمر عليهم الكاتب، كلحظات فارقة ومميزة في حياته، حيث تنتهي الرحلة بانتهاء مسؤوليته في اتحاد الأطباء العرب في أوروبا، وليبدأ حقبة زمنية جديدة أكثر إثارة وحيوية وإنسانية، يعبّر عنها بقوله: "كنت أعزو تلك الخطوة الجديدة، ألا وهي دعم ومساعدة الشعب السوري في محنته".
يضم الكتاب ثلاثين عنواناً، تتضمن رحلة الكاتب وذكرياته وخواطره جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: 1- الطفولة والشباب، 2- بين استانبول وحلب، 3- تأثير تربية الوالد عليّ، 4- الحياة الجامعية، 5- من الدكتوراه في استانبول إلى الإختصاص في المانيا، 6- المفاجأة الكبرى، 7- المراحل النهائية من اختصاصي، 8- وظيفتي كخبير وكبير أطباء الجراحة (...) وعناوين أخرى ذات صلة.
