الإمام الغزالي فقيه من كبار الشافعية ومما صنف ثلاثة كتب في الفقه أحدها الوجيز، ولمكانة مؤلفه وصغر حجمه أقبل عليه المبتدئون بالحفظ والإستظهار . إلا أنه لإيجازه كان صعب العبارة، قتولى الرافعي أحد كبار الشافعية شرح هذا المتن فهو يصدر المتن بقوله قال الغزالي، والشرح بـ " قال الرافعي " فيبين الصحيح المعتمد من الأقوال . لذا مدح الإمام النووي هذا الكتاب بل قال هو وغيره : لم يصنف في الفقه الشافعي مثله وقد قدم للكتاب بمجلد فيه تمهيد ببيان فوائد فقهية وأصولية وتعريف بالكتابين ومؤلفيها وعلى الكتاب تعليقات حديثية وفقهية.
