هذا كتاب استقى المؤلف مادته من كتاب "الروح" للإمام محمد بن قيم الجوزية وتحدث فيه عن "الحقيقة" ومقصود ابن القيم بها، حيث تطرق لحقيقة الروح والنفس، من ثم حدد هل هي قديمة أن محدثة؟ وهل تقدم خلقها على خلق الجسد أم تأخر عنه؟ ما هي حالها هل تموت أم الموت للبدن وحده، وهل تعاد إلى الميت، ومتى تعاد؟ بعد ذلك تحدث عن إدراك الأموات لزيارة الأحياء لهم وسلامهم عليهم، كما ورد على سؤالين هل تلاقي أرواح الأحياء أرواح الأموات أم لا؟ من ثم عكف للرد على سؤال هام وهو بأي شيء تتمايز الأرواح بعد مفارقة الأشباح حتى تتعارف؟ وهل تتشكل بأشكال أبدانها أولاً؟
من ثم تحدث عن فتنة القبر بالسؤال فرد على الأسئلة التالية: هل تنتفع أرواح الموتى بشيء من سعي الأحياء أولاً؟ في عذاب القبر ونعيمه، وما محله؟ أهو النفس أم البدن؟ أم هما؟ وهل ذكر في القرآن وفي أنه دائم أم منقطع؟ وما يوقع فيع وما ينجي منه؟
