وفي هذا الكتاب ينبري المؤلف لكشف الحقائق وفضح الأكاذيب والأباطيل التي ألصقت بالدولة الأموية. وقد عمد إلى الإطلاع على ما كتبه المتقدمون والمتأخرون عن خلافة بني أمية ووقف عند بعض الأخبار مما يستنكره القارئ أو يستشفيه السامع فأخضع أسانيد هذه الأقوال لمنهج المناقشة والتحليل والاستنتاج مشيراً إلى ذلك في موضعه، وقد قسم الكتاب إلى عدد من الفصول بهدف عرض أحداث مرحلة تاريخية مهمة من التاريخ الإسلامي.
