الجريمة الإقتصادية، كما عرفها مغعظم الفقهاء، هي كل عمل أو امتناع عن العمل يأتيه الإنسان أو لا يأتيه بهدف الأضرار بمصالح الدولة الإقتصادية ويكون له أثر سلبي على الإقتصادي القومي الإجمالي، يتفاوت بحسب درجة خطورة العمل أو الإمتناع عن العمل المذكورين.
في هذا الكتاب يقدم المحامي ملحم مارون كرم دراسة مقارنة في (الجريمة الإقتصادية) ، وما دفعه إلى إنجاز هذه الدراسة كما يقول: "هو أولاً الأهمية التي يأخذها الموضوع يوماً بعد يوم، سواء لناحية تشديد العقوبات لمرتكبي هذه الجرائم لتكثيف الأبحاث والمراجع اللبنانية المتناولة لهذا الموضوع ... نأمل أن تكون مفيدة على الصعيد الجامعي الطلابي، وفي المجال المهني".
وفي هذا الإطار يعرض المؤلف تعريف الجريمة الإقتصادية وللمشكلة التي يثيرها هذا التعريف، ان لناحية الإطار الذي تتواجد فيه الجريمة الإقتصادية أو لناحية تعلقها وارتباطها الوثيق بالنظام الذي ترتكب ضده .. ولهذا انقسم البحث إلى بابين: الباب الأول يتضمن تعداداً للجرائم الإقتصادية في لبنان ولأنواعها ولتصانيفها، كما هي واردة في قانون العقوبات أو في القوانين الأخرى، أما الباب الثاني فيعالج من خلاله المؤلف أركان كل نوع من أنواع الجرائم المعددة التي تم ذكرها في الباب الأول، وذلك بالكلام على الركن المادي وعلى الركن العنوي، والقصد الجرمي، ومفهوم الجريمة المادية، ومسؤولية الأشخاص المعنوية ... وغيرها.
