الفلسفة الإسلامية ليست خليطاً من فلسفات اليونان، عُرِّبَتْ ألفاظها بلون إسلامي، بل هي وإن استعانت بفلسفة اليونان، فلسفة قائمة بذاتها، لها مشاكلها الخاصة بها فهي تبحث في الوحدة والتعدد، وفي الصلة بين الله ومخلوقاته، وتحاول أن توفق بين العقل والنقل (الدين).
في هذا الكتاب يسعى المؤلف إلى إبراز هذه الحقيقة على ضوء دراسة تناول فيها جوانب هامة من جوانب الفلسفة الإسلامية من خلال تاريخ الإسلام الحافل بإضاءات فلسفية متميزة. وقد تناول المؤلف لهذه الغاية البحث في المحاور التالية:
فكرة الخلق في الفلسفة اليونانية وفكرة الخلق في العصور الوسطى، أتبع المؤلف ذلك بفكرة الخلق عن فلاسفة الإسلام ليكون هناك شيء من المقارنة ثم التمييز. وبحث بعد ذلك في نشأة الفكر الفلسفي في الإسلام والفكر السني، تحديد أمة الإسلام، أسس اختلاف الفرق الإسلامية... منهج أهل السنة بين الفرق، إثبات الحقائق والعلوم، حدوث العالم، الصفات الإلهية، العدل الإلهي، إثبات النبوة، أركان الإسلام، الإيمان والإسلام، السمعيات، الإمامة، أحكام أعداء الدين، السلف الصالح، ابتعاد أهل السنة عن تكفير بعضهم بعضاً، بدعة السبئية، القضاء والقدر، الاجتهاد، النبوة، الحديث النبوي، التصوف، الجهل والعلم، مبدأ المساواة، التثبت من الرأي، الاجتهاد في أحكام الدين، التفكير العقلي لدى الخوارج، وختم المؤلف دراسته هذه بالفلسفة الإسلامية ودراستها وبنظرية السعادة أو الاتصال.
