إن جوهر الشعر عند "أمثل إسماعيل" يقوم على ثنائية الخلق والعدم، أو تداعيات الأنا مقابل الآخر وتتضح أكثر ثيماتها الفكرية عبر النسيج اللغوي والبنائي لقصائد المجموعة. ذلك أن هناك بنية للفراغ تملأ صفحات النصوص بلوعة خاصة جدا. نمت في حدس الشاعر، ليصحوا منها و "القلب نديان ومضفور الحواس" كما يقول لنا.
ها هو يناجي شمس الروح: "ما لشمس الروح/ تحمس المياه/ السماء/ في الينابيع العتيقة/ وتقرقش أهداب الرؤى/ فضة خضراء/ ما لشمس الروح/ هتاف حنين آت/ في حنجراتها المبحوح النور/ وتذرف المساء من عيونها/ مواسم ياسمين أسود/ هو أيلول العمر/ يطوي خيامه المذهبة/ غائباً في لا مدى الرماد" (...)".
هي صور شعرية غنية بمقوماتها الجمالية ضاجة بالمعاني والرموز، غنية بالبلاغة رغم لغة الترميز التي يتبناها الشاعر ما بين السطور والكلمات.
من عناوين القصائد نذكر: طلوع، البحر، خوابي الحنين، الأقصى، الغريب، إرتحاب، كلام، حورية التراب، جذور ... الخ.
