أكدت المحافل الدولية والمؤتمرات على أن الطفل نواة الأسرة والأسرة عماد المجتمع، ومن أجل مجتمع أكثر إنسانية يتوجب حماية الأطفال من العنف والإهمال والاستغلال الجسدي والنفسي، وتحصينهم ضد المرض، وإعدادهم بالعناية الصحية والرعاية العائلية، والتعليم، وهذا باختصار كان شعار قمة الطفولة الأولى التي انعقدت منذ سنوات قليلة. لكن بالرغم من كل ذلك ما زال يموت كل عام أحد عشر مليون طفل من أمراض يمكن معالجتها وهناك /150/ مليون طفل تحت مستوى الجوع و/120/ مليون طفل لا يعرف المدرسة إطلاقاً وحسب تقارير الأمم المتحدة فإن من بين مئة طفل يولد هناك ربعهم فقط يصل إلى مرحلة التعليم الثانوي.
الطفل هو ثروة الأمة، بل هو أفضل ثروة بشرية للمستقبل، إن لم يكن موضوع عناوين اليوم فإنه هو الذي سيضع عناوين الغد... وقد فوجئ رؤساء دول العالم في قمة الطفولة الأخيرة بنيويورك بطفل بوليفيه في الثامنة عشر من عمرها تقف وتصحيح:
"اعملوا حسابنا منذ الآن، فنحن لسنا المستقبل فقط.. نحن الحاضر أيضاً..". وهذا الواقع يعكس رؤية مشتركة ومتناقضة معاً بين رؤساء الدول والأطفال، فكلاهما يعتبر أنه هو الحاضر وهو المستقبل.
في هذا الكتاب الذي تضمن أربعة فصول موزعة وفق ما يلي: الفصل الأول: وتناولنا به حقوق الطفل في ضوء أحكام الشريعة الإسلامية، الفصل الثاني: ويتضمن حقوق الطفل في الإتفاقيات الدولية العامة، الفصل الثالث: ويحتوي حقوق الطفل في الإتفاقيات الدولية الخاصة، الفصل الرابع: وخصص لتطبيقات حماية حقوق الطفل في بعض البلاد العربية.
