هذا كتاب حكمة ولهو، كتبه الفيلسوف الهندي بيدبا، وجعل القصص والكلام على لسان الحيوانات رغبة في إيصال الحكمة بأقل كلفة، وبذلك يفهمه من كتب من أجله دون سواهم، وقد ترجمه إلى العربية عبد الله بن المقفع وذكر أنه كتاب يختاره الحكماء لحكمته، والأغرار للهوه، وأن من حفظه من الصغار الأحداث فإنه وإن لم يفهمه في الصغر: يجده كنزا في الكبر، فأورد فيه مثلا: السمكات الثلاث، الأسد والثور، القرد والعدس وغيرها.
