تأتي هذه الدراسة مكملة للبحوث الجامعية التي تناولت العهد الجمهوري بأدواره اللاحقة لقد كُتبت دراسات كثيرة عن تلك الحقبة وتم وضع الأسس لهذه الدراسة على ضوء المتوفر للمعلومات من وثائق وكتب منشورة باستثناء المشاركين في تلك الأحداث لأن أغلبهم فارقوا الحياة الى رحمة الله. وكان اختيار الباحث لهذه الفترة، لأنها تمثل فرة جديدة من تاريخ العراق المعاصر وباعتبارها فترة تحرر من قيود التبعية ولها تأثيرها الواضح فيما بعد وما حصل على العراق من تغيرات سياسية واقتصادية واجتماعية.
وقد التزم الباحث بأسلوب ومنهج البحث التاريخي في عرض الحوادث التاريخية والموضوعات التي وردت في متن هذه الدراسة، فضلاً عن التعريف بالشخصيات الوطنية والسياسية حسب طبيعة البحث ويمكن القول إن صياغة وأسلوب البحث التاريخي في فصول هذه الرسالة هو الالتزام بالتسلسل التاريخي مع استخدام مناهج بحث مساعدة مثل التحليلي والمقارن.
كذلك ركزنا على الموضوعات ذات العلاقة في العهد الجمهوري الأول مع دراسة لأوضاعه الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والسياسية وما تحقق من مشاريع كانت الحكومة قد خططت لها، ومدى تأثيرها الواضح بين أوساط الشعب العراقي.
