في كتابه "صدمة المعلوماتية" يسلط الدكتور مازن مرسول محمد الضوء على ظاهرة المعلوماتية ويتتبع ظروف نشأتها ويدرس مكامن الضعف فيها، وأثر كل ذلك على الثقافة العربية والقيم الاجتماعية والمؤسسات التربوية والاقتصادية والسياسية، في دعوة إلى التحكم بثورة المعلومات بأسلوب عقلي وعملي، يؤدي إلى تلمس الإيجابيات ونبذ السلبيات والسبيل إلى ذلك تشخيص العلل في مجتمعنا العربي ورسم طريق التطور الذي ينبغي سلوكه في عصر المعلوماتية هذا بعد دراسة المؤلف لهذه الظاهرة من جميع جوانبها واستناداً إلى تقارير ودراسات سابقة اعتبر "أنها أخطبوط عالمي يمتلك مقدرات جميع الدول بمعنى الكلمة، من تدخل وفرض هيمنة واستعمار وتشريع-ونحن-والكلام للمؤلف-نرى هذه الإمكانية الهائلة لهذه القوة بامتلاكها عصب المعلوماتية، نتوجس خيفة وحذراً شديداً من أثر الآلية في اختراق مجتمعاتنا وتدميرها وتهميش أسسها الثقافية متمثلة بمعلوماتية متخفية بغطاء أو قناع التقدم ومناصرة العولمة...".
وفي هذا الإطار تم تقسيم مواد الكتاب إلى أربعة فصول جاء الفصل الأول كمدخل للمعلوماتية، تعريفها، نشأتها، آلياتها، أما الفصل الثاني فركز على البناء الاجتماعي والاختراق المعلوماتي. ويضم أولاً: الأسرة بين التقليد والانبعاث الجديد. ثانياً: المؤسسة التربوية ورؤى الاختراق المعلوماتي. ثالثا: النظام الاقتصادي والتحدي المعلوماتي. رابعاً: البنى السياسية بين المحافظة وتقويض الوظائف. وجاء الفصل الثالث بعنوان: المنظومة الثقافية بمواجهة الغزو المعلوماتي ويدرس أولاً: بعض الانعكاسات الثقافية السلبية للثورة المعلوماتية. ثانياً: الثقافة العربية والاختراق المعلوماتي. ويأتي الفصل الرابع والأخير كنظرة باتجاه: الآفاق المستقبلية للمعلوماتية في المجتمع العربي، ويسلط الضوء نحو: أولاً: واقع ثورة المعلومات ومستقبلها في الوطن العربي، ثانياً: منطلقات الاستراتيجية العربية في مواجهة ثورة المعلومات.
