لعل التعمق في قضايا الوعي ووعي المشكلة يستلزم غوراً مفاهيمياً يمكن أن يستدرج المعاني ويربط الأسباب بالنتائج، لمعرفة ماهية الوعي وماهية المشكلة، وللخوض في غمار أصول الوعي حاول الدكتور "مازن مرسول محمد، فك لبس غموض المفاهيم، ودلالاتها الخاصة بها بقراءة (سوسيو –ابستمولوجية) في خطاب الوعي المتأزم في اللحظة التي أنتجت هذا الوعي بقول المؤلف: في ديباجة الحياة ظهرت صور عديدة صوَرت تصرفات وسلوكيات الأفراد على أنها نابعة من انحدارها من مواقف ضعف أو عدم فهم أو قلة خبرة أو التفاضي عن الفهم العميق الحقيقي من جانب، ومن جانب آخر قد تكون نابعة من سلوكيات وتصرفات صحيحة مدروسة، وهي انعكاس لتمكين المعرفة من إدارة الحياة بشكل متزن، وما هو حادث في أغلب نواحي الحياة".
وهنا يتساءل المؤلف كيف يدرك ويعرف ويتوقع الإنسان ما هو مطلوب منه وما ينبغي عليه أن يفعله؟ وهل كل البشر قادرون على إمتلاك منظومة وعي مدركه كاملة، وكيف يكتسبونها؟ (...) وهل نشأ الفرد في محيط يؤهله لأن يتمكن معرفياً من خوض غمار الحياة؟
وللإجابة على هذه التساؤلات وإشكالات غيرها يتابع المؤلف خط سير المجتمعات والشعوب من متقدمة ومتخلفة بهدف التوجه نحو توجيه الوعي العقلاني نحو إعادة ضياغة الحياة الإنسانية بشكل أفضل بعيداً عن التناحرات والتصدعات التي أوجدها الإنسان ذاته لأخيه الإنسان.
انقسم الكتاب إلى ستة فصول جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: الفصل الأول: منظورات نحو الوعي والمشكلة، الفصل الثاني: ميكانيزمات المحيط وتكوين الوعي، الفصل الثالث: منظومة الوعي وفهم الآخر (الوعي المقموع نحو الآخر)، الفصل الرابع: الصورة الحقيقية لتغييب الوعي، الفصل الخامس: صياغة المشكلات الإنسانية من منظور ضعف الوعي، والفصل السادس: استراتيجيات عقلنة الوعي (الوعي الذي لا يمكن إنكاره) وأخيراً الخاتمة.
