وجاءت هذه الوثائق في موضوعات متنوعو منها: السياسية والتجارية والقضائية، وجلها مكتوبة بخط اليد العادي، ربما كانت بخط القنصل الأمريكي نفسه أو بخط وكيله أو بخط أحد المسؤولين في القنصلية الأمريكية في السلطنة.
والهدف في هذا الكتاب إخراج الوثائق من ملفاتها وقراءتها واختيار المهم منها وتبويبها نشرها، ليستفيد منها القارئ المطلع والباحث المتخصص.
