منذ صدور كتاب فكتور فارياس هيدغر والنازية في خريف 1987، والذي كان يهدف لإظهار بأن فلسفة هيدغر لا يمكن أن تفهم إلاّ يضوء انتسابه إلى الحركة الاشتراكية-الوطنية في عامي 1933-1934، فإن أخذ المواقف بالنسبة لهذا الموضوع قد تعددت. وقد اخترنا هنا على العكس كطرح الإشكالية التي ما فتئ هيدغر يعتبرها سؤاله الأساسي، وهي العلاقة بين الكينونة والزمان، وهمنا الوحيد هو السماح بالرجوع إلى النصوص ذاتها في غياب كل موقف أيديولوجي. وبدون أن يقدم هذا الكتاب جواباً جاهزاً عن العلاقة عند هيدغر بين الأنطولوجيا والسياسة، فإنه يحاول إعطائه، للذين يرغبون في أن يضعوا لأنفسهم فكرة واضحة لفكره، بعض نقاط مرجعية موجهة لمساعدتهم في القراءة.
إن هذا الكتاب مقتنع بأنه لا يمكن أن يُحكم بطريقة صحيحة على الانخراط السياسي لمفكر ما بدون أن يُفهم فكره تماماً.
