يلقي مؤلف هذا الكتاب الضوء على جذور كمال جنبلاط الطبقية والعائلية حيث لعبت أسرة جنبلاط دوراً بارزاً في مراحل تاريخية مختلفة. ويلقي الضوء على مرحلة التكوين العلمي والثقافي لكمال جنبلاط، بدءاً من المدرسة الابتدائية في عينطورة حيث يبرز أثر القراءات الدينية في هذه المرحلة ولا سيما الكتب الصوفية قبل أن يدرس القانون في فرنسا وتتبلور معالم خطه السياسي حيث جاءت مشاركته في الحكم بعد تأسيس الحزب التقدمي الإشتراكي في 17 آذار 1949. ووقوفه مع المقاومة الفلسطينية وصولاً إلى اغتياله في 16 آذار 1977.
ويبرز المؤلف في هذا الكتاب ملامح شخصية كمال جنبلاط التي تتميز بالتمرد على الواقع إذ دفعه فهمه العميق للمجتمع اللبناني ولمتناقضاته إلى التوجه للفكر الاشتراكي رغم انتمائه إلى عائد إقطاعية. كما تمرد كمال جنبلاط على التركيبة السياسية ورأى في التكوين الطائفي السياسي ما يحول دون صيرورة الاجتماع اللبناني وحدة وطنية حقيقية. ومن خلال المؤثرات الفكرية التي خضع لها كمال جنبلاط يتبنى أثرها في دفعه نحو المفهوم الاشتراكي والعلمنة التي جعلته يتخطى المفهوم الإقطاعي والمفاهيم الموروثة.
