يعالج الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا الشخصية ومفهومها، بوجه عام، وسماتها، والعوامل المؤثرة في نموها، وتطورها، والنظريات التي وضعت لتفسيرها وأساليب قياسها أو التعرف على عناصرها وذلك بغية إلمام القارئ بالتراث العلمي الحديث في هذا الصدد، والتعرف من خلاله على ذلك التكوين العظيم، ونعني به الشخصية.
ويستهدف الكتاب بصفة خاصة إلقاء بعض الأضواء على الشخصية العربية في الوقت الحاضر والتعرف على سماتها، وخصائصها، ومميزاتها. ذلك لأن كثيراً من تلك السمات تتأثر بالعوامل الحضارية والثقافية أي بالحضارة الإسلامية الخالدة، فإذا كانت العوامل الوراثية تؤثر في بعض السمات الأساسية في الفرد، كطول القامة وشكل الشعر ولون العينين وبناء الجسم وتكوينه، فإن العوامل الثقافية تؤثر في سمات أخرى كالقيم والعادات والتقاليد والمثل العليا، والعلم وغير ذلك.
ويستعرض الكتاب نتائج بعض الدراسات التي أجريت على الشخصية العربية بغية التعرف عليها، والإلمام بالطريقة التي تمكننا من دراسة هذه الشخصية ومقارنتها بغيرها.
