"السيدة فراشة" هي من روائع قصص الأوبرا العالمية للموسيقي ملحن الأوبرا الايطالي جاكامو بوتشيني (1858-1924)، نقلها إلى العربية المترجم مارك عبود، ووضعها في إطارها التاريخي، عبر مشهدية تصويرية مسرحية تلتقط التفاصيل والجزئيات، التي تعكس المرحلة التي كتبت فيها المسرحية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر، حيث تدور أحداث أوبرا السيدة باترفلاي حول بنكرتون Pinkerton وهو جندي أميركي تزوج من محظية يابانية تدعى شيو شيو شان Chio-Chio-Son ما يعني السيدة فراشة وذلك اثناء مروره بمدينة ناغاساكي وأنجب منها طفلاً، ولأنه اعتبر لقاءه بتلك المرأة مجرد نزوة عابرة، قرر تركها والسفر بعيداً عنها، في حين أنها ظلت وفية لذلك الجندي ورفضت العديد من عروض الزواج ... وبعد ثلاث سنوات من الغياب والإنتظار، يرجع بنكرتون برفقة زوجته الأميركية، الأمر الذي كان وقعه مخيباً وصادماً بالنسبة إلى شيو شيو شان، التي بادرت إلى إعطاء إبنها للزوجين، والإنتحار !!
