وقد روعي في هذه التحفة تنوع الأبواب والمداخل العلمية والأدبية والتاريخية التي تناسب أذواق القراء كافة، فالباحث عن القصص المعبرة المؤثرة يجدها في باب القصص والأخبار، والساعي إلى الفكاهة والمرح، يجد بغيته في باب الطوائف والنوادر، ومن يجد في نفسه ميلاً إلى العصف الذهني وحل الألغاز، فقد خصصنا باباً كبيراً لهذا الأمر، ومن طلب الحكمة والشعر فهناك بابان واسعان لذلك، ومن أراد الفائدة العلمية والأدبية والتاريخية وجدها في أبواب مستقلة لذلك كذلك وحرصاً منا على أن تكون مضامين هذا الكتاب سهلة شيقة، قريبة الفهم، وأضحة العبارة والدلالة، فقد عملنا، ما وسعنا الجهد، على إختصار المطولات، وشرح الألفاظ والتعابير الغامضة التي قد يعسر على القارئ فهمها، وقد يجد صعوبة في إستخراج معانيها من مظانها، لهذا فقد وضّحنا معانيها ودلالاتها في حواشي هذا الكتاب.
