في كتابه "نزهة النَّاظر في المُلَحِ والطرائف والنَّوادرِ" يعيد الدكتور إبراهيم بدر شهاب الخالدي الإبتسامة إلى وجه القارئ العربي؛ ويفعل ذلك من خلال إستنباش قصص السلف الصالح التي وجد فيها الكثير من القصص والنوادر والمُلَحِ التي تتهلل بها الأسارير، مع ما فيها من الدروس والعظات والعبر الكثير، إضافة إلى ما ظهر في التراث العربي من الشخصيات الفكاهية، والتي اشتهر منها أشعب، وأبو دلامة، وأبو العِبرَ، وأبو العيناء، وغيرهم ممن تنسب إليهم الكثير من الطرائف والنوادر المشهورة، كما فعل الجاحظ في كتاب "الحيوان" وأبو الحيان التوحيدي في كتابه "الإمتاع والمؤانسة"، وأبو فرج الأصفهاني في كتابه "الأغاني"، وغيرهم ممن حمَّلوا كتبهم أخباراً ونوادراً وأشعاراً.
من هنا، جاء هذا الكتاب ليجمع بين دفتيه بعض هذه المُلح والطرائف والأخبار الطريفة مما حوته كتب التراث العربي وكتب الأدب ومما أفردته تجارب الحياة، لما فيها من فوائد جمة ووظائف عديدة برأي مؤلف الكتاب.
