[مبدأ الحرية - نقيضاً للعبودية - هو مبدأ شديد الإلتصاق (من حيث دلالته) بمبدإ العقل؛ ذلك أن الإنسان الحر هو الإنسان العاقل أساساً.
[في تعريف أبو زيد للحرية مراوغةٌ بغيضة، وإحتيالٌ على اللغة والإصطلاح معاً؛ لأنه خدعهم بأن الحرية - تعريفاً - معطى عقلي؛ وبالتالي يقبلون عفن الحرية العرفية والإصطلاحية على أنه قيمة كريمة... أي لأنها معطى عقلي!!...
إن الحرية لغةً نقيض العبودية سواء أكانت العبودية حقاً أم باطلاً، خيراً أم شراً، جمالاً أم قبحاً!!... والحرية في إصطلاح القانون الوضعي المسيطر على الدول والجماعات هي الإستجابة للحق الطبيعي الذي بُني عليه القانون الطبيعي... أي حرية الشهوات والشبهات من غير أن تؤذي حرية الآخرين!!...
وفي هذا الإصطلاح إلغاءٌ لحرية العقل الذي خلقه الله تعالى للهداية، وهي حرية نظر تنتهي بقطعيَّة أو رجحان أو إحتمال، فينتقل العقل من حرية النظر إلى مسؤولية الإلتزام، وبالحرية والإلتزام كان الإيمان العلمي بالدين ضرورة عقلية، وتحكيم شرع الله تعالى مسؤولية فكرية... ومعنى المسؤولية - وهي مسؤولية علمية - أن يُكبح جماح السلوك الحر.
