علم الاجتماع الديني فرع من فروع علم الاجتماع تمكن من الاستقلالية عن علم الاجتماع والدين خلال النصف الأول من القرن العشرين بعد أن تداخلت شؤون المؤسسة الدينية في شؤون المجتمع، وبعد تعقد المؤسسة الدينية وتشعبها وزيادة تفاعلاتها مع البناء الاجتماعي، وبعد حاجة المجتمع المتزايدة إلى الدين عندما ضعفت القيم وتحللت الأخلاق والمثل وظهر التناقض بين المادي والروحي. يحتوي الكتاب على عشرة فصول متكاملة، يدور الفصل الأول منها حول موضوع أساسيات علم الاجتماع الديني، والفصل الثاني يتناول بالدراسة والتحليل موضوع الدين والمجتمع، والفصل الثالث يدرس موضوع الاسلام بين المادة والروح، والفصل الرابع يتناول بالدراسة والتحليل تأثير الاسلام في النظم والتشريعات الاجتماعية والتأثيرات الاسلامية في النظم الاجتماعية، الفصل الخامس يدرس موضوع الاسلام دين القيم الفاضلة والممارسات الخيرة، والسادس تناول دراسة الاسلام كدين يدعو إلى المساواة والعدالة الاجتماعية، بينما يهتم الفصل السابع بدراسة التكافل الاجتماعي في الاسلام، ويركز الفصل الثامن من الكتاب على الاسلام والدفاع عن حقوق المرأة مع الرجل في الأعمال والنوايا والذنوب، ويهتم الفصل التاسع بموضوع دور الاسلام في مكافحة الجريمة، وأخيراً يعالج الفصل العاشر موضوع الدفاع عن مبادئ الاسلام وتعاليمه ضد الطعون والافتراءات.
