وقد ظهر علم الإجتماع القانوني في فترة ما بين الحربين العالميتين الأولى والثانية وأصبح علماً قائماً بحد ذاته كعلم الإجتماع الصناعي وعلم الإجتماع الإقتصادي وعلم إجتماع المعرفة وعلم الإجتماع العسكري في أعقاب الحرب العالمية الثانية وذلك بعد تداخل الحقائق والمعلومات القانونية بالحقائق والمعلومات الإجتماعية إلى درجة أننا لا نستطيع فهم مضامين القانون وأبعاده إلا بعد دراستنا لعلم الإجتماع والبحث الإجتماعي، وإننا في الوقت ذاته لا نستطيع فهم الواقع الإجتماعي وعلم الإجتماع الذي يدرسه ويحلله إلا بعد دراستنا للقانون ومضامينه الإجتماعية والإنسانية.
