يضم هذا الأطلس بين دفتيه مجموعة كبيرة من الرسوم والصور التي تحكي قصة التطور الذي لقيه المسجد الحرام والمشاعر المقدسة على مر التاريخ الإسلامي الطويل، معتمداً على الرسم والصورة التي تفصح بأبلغ عبارة، وتنطق بأصدق مقالة عن واقع تاريخي لم نشهده، فنقلته لنا تلك الصور والرسوم كما كان، ليبقى ماثلاً للعيان على مر الزمان.
وتناول الأطلس ما توافر من رسوماتٍ وصور للمسجد الحرام والمشاعر المقدسة في مكة المكرمة مبتدئاً بالرسومات الإسلامية القديمة التي يعد أقدمها رسم يعود إلى ما قبل سنة 48هـ، كما ضم الأطلس رسومات لبعض الغربيين وأوصافهم للمسجد الحرام والمشاعر المقدسة مثل: باديا ليبلخ، وبوركهارت، وبيرتون.
وقد نطق الأطلس بأصدق عبارة وأوضح معنى بما لقيه المسجد الحرام والمشاعر المقدسة من عناية فائقة من بداية عهد الملك "عبد العزيز" الذي وطد الأمن، وجمع الفرقة، ونشر الألفة، ومدَّ البنيان، وجعل الحرمين الشريفين قرة عينه، ومحط همته وإهتمامه، لإراحة الحجاج والمعتمرين، ولتقديم الوفاء وكريم العطاء لأقدس البقاع وأطهر الأمكنة.
وتناول الأطلس بعضاً من مظاهر العناية التي لقيها المسجد الحرام والمشاعر القدسة في عهد الملك "عبد العزيز" وأبنائه من بعده، مثل: صناعة الكسوة، وتجديد باب الكعبة المشرفة، وإضاءة المسجد الحرام، وتنظيم المواصلات وطرق الحج.
وتطرق الأطلس إلى التوسعة الكبرى للمسجد الحرام، وهي توسعة خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك "فهد بن عبد العزيز" التي شملت إلى جانب ذلك، تجديد بناء الكعبة، وتنظيم المشاعر المقدسة وتطويرها نحو كل ما يهيئ للحجاج والمعتمرين الراحة والأمان لأداء نسكهم بخشوع وتعبد.
وختم الأطلس بالإشارة إلى مشروع وقف الملك "عبد العزيز" للحرمين الشريفين الذي وضع حجر أساسه خادم الحرمين الشريفين الملك "عبد الله بن عبد العزيز".
