يحتل كتاب "شرح الشافية" للأديب العلامة فخر الدين أحمد بن حسين الجاربردي (ت: 746هـ) مكانة مهمة في اللغة العربية، ولهذا، قدم الأستاذ علي كمال في هذا الكتاب شرحه لهذا الكتاب ووسمه بعنوان "شرح الجاربردي على الشافية في الصرف"...
ووفقاً لهذا العنوان فإن مباحث الكتاب تدور في التصريف وهو: "التصريف علم بأصول تعرف بها أحوال أبنية الكلم التي ليس بإعراب" ومعنى "تُعرف بها أحوال أبنية الكلم" النحو والصرف، و"ليست بإعراب" علم النحو بأقسامه، أي بحث المبنيات والمعربات.
وعليه، يقدم هذا الكتاب شرحاً للكتاب الآنف الذكر، تنحل به ألفاظه ومعانيه، وتتكشف عباراته ومبانيه، يمكن الإطلاع من خلاله على دقائق أسرار اللغة العربية في هذا الباب، مما استخرجه مؤلفه من بحور هذه اللغة، ويبدأ فيه بتعريف التصريف وأنواع الأبنية، والميزان الصرفي والصحيح والمعتل مروراً بجمع الجمع والإبتداء والوقف والخروج باللغة عن الأوزان المشهورة من أدلة الزيادة، وتعيين الزائد من حرفي التضعيف، والإمالة وتخفيف الهمزة، وأبواب من الإعلال والإبدال والإدغام، ومسائل أخرى (تمرينات) يختتم بها الكتاب.
