أحمد بن محمد الحملاوي: مدرّس مصري، له نظم. تخرج بدار العلوم ثم بالأزهر. وزاول المحاماة الشرعية مدة.وعمل في التدريس الى سنة 1928 ووضع كتبا مدرسية، منها (شذا العرف في فن الصرف - ط) و (زهر الربيع في المعاني والبيان والبديع - ط) و(مورد الصفا في سيرة المصطفى - ط) و (ديوان - ط) أكثره مدائح نبوية

ما انتظم عِقدُ علم إلاَّ والصَّرْفُ واسطتُه، ولا ارتفع مَنارُه، إلا وهو قاعدته، إذ هو إحدى دعائم الأدب، وبه تُعرَف سَعة كلام العرب، وتنجلي فرائد مفردات الآيات القرآنية، والأحاديث النبوية، وهما الواسطة في الوصول إلى السعادة الدينية والدنيوية.
ولأهمية علم الصرف لطلاب الدراسات الصرفية في المدارس والمعاهد وبعض الكليات، عمد الشيخ أحمد الحملاوى على تأليف هذا الكتاب ليكون عوناً لهم؛ وهذه الطبعة الحادية عشرة من طبعاته، دليل على إستمرار النفع به، وعلى قيمة ما أودع من مادة صحيحة مهذّبة، ملائمة لعقول الطلاب.
وقد ابتدأ المؤلف بالمبتدأ والخبر، ثم ميّز الصحيح من العليل، وقد جعل كتابه مرتباً على مقدمة وثلاثة أبواب: فالمقدمة: فيما لا بد منه فيه، والباب الأول: في الفعل، والثاني: في الإسم، والثالث: في أحكام تَعُمُّهما.
