يتناول هذا الكتاب موضوعاً مهماً من مواضيع تاريخ الكورد المعاصر وتطور الفكر السياسي والقومي الكوردي، من خلال متابعة تاريخ حركة التحرر القومية الكوردية في العراق خلال الفترة ما بين 1946 و1975م، مسلطاً الضوء على صفحات مهمة من نضالات الحزب الديمقراطي الكوردستاني في العراق وموضحاً ظروف نشوء هذا الحزب، ومن ثم طريق تطوره، ومحللاً ظروف اندلاع الثورة القومية الكوردية للفترة 1961 – 1975م، ومنهج الحزب السياسي على الصعيدين الداخلي والخارجي ومواقفه حيال الحكومات المتعاقبة في بغداد وكذلك الأحزاب والمنظمات في البلاد. ويتناول الكتاب أيضاً الكفاح في سبيل تحقيق الشعار الذي رفعه الحزب: "الديمقراطية للعراق والحكم الذاتي للكوردستان" علاوة على تأثيره على حركات التحرر القومي الكوردية في باقي أجزاء كوردستان.
تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من كون القضية الكوردية لا تزال تُعتبر من أهم القضايا المعقدة في تاريخ العراق منذ أواخر الحرب العالمية الأولى وحتى العصر الحاضر، ذلك أن الأوضاع السياسية الراهنة في جوهرها ومن وجهة نظر كثير من المراقبين، لا تختلف كثيراً عما هي في مجالاتها المختلفة، فما تزال القضية الجوهرية وهي حق تقرير المصير للشعر الكوردي قيد الدراسة والمناقشة، ولعل هذا الكتاب قد يصبح عوناً للقارئ والسياسي الكوردي بغية تكوين وجهة نظر عميقة نافذة لمصلحة الشعب الكوردي.
