تتّسم دراسة مفهوم جماليّ ما في أساطير الشرق القديم وملاحمه بجاذبيّة خاصّة، لأنَّها في الأساس؛ دراسة مجموعة القيم الإجتماعيّة الناتجة عن علاقة الإنسان الإجتماعيّ بواقعه، مدفوعاً برغبة دفينة غايتها فهم الحياة وإدراك كنهها، ولأنّ الفنّ نتاج جماليّ أصلاً، فإنّ حرص إنسان بلاد الرافدين على إيصال هذا النتاج الفنيّ للأجيال التي تليه، هو في الأصل نابع من موقف جماليّ وأخلاقيّ في آن.
لذا كان من الممتع والمفيد البحث في تجلّيات واحد من أهمّ المفاهيم الجماليّة، وهو البطوليّ المعبّر عن تفكير الإنسان الذي أنتج هذا الأدب؛ ذلك أنّ التفكير كان وما يزال أكثر قدرة على عكس الواقع بعمق وصدق.
وقد قسم هذه الدراسة إلى مدخل، وأربعة فصول، وخاتمة، وملحق بأسماء الأعلام والألهة، وقد تناول المدخل: الحديث عن نظرية البطوليّ، (تحديد المفهوم، وتوضيح العلاقة بين البطوليّ والمفاهيم الجماليّة الأخرى كالجليل، والجميل، والتراجيديّ)، وعرض الخصائص البطوليّة العامّة، واختص الفصل الأول: بدراسة تجلّيات البطوليّ في أساطير الخلق والتكوين، عبر عدد من الأساطير كأسطورة الخليقة وغيرها.
وتناول الفصل الثاني: البطوليّ في أساطير البعث والموت، عبر أسطورة عودة دمّوزي، وأسطورة نزول عشتار إلى العالم الأسفل، وتضمّن محاولة لرصد الأبعاد الرمزيّة البطوليّة، ودرس الفصل الثالث: البطوليّ في ملاحم الشرق القديم، وعمل الفصل الرابع: على الأدوات الأسلوبيّة المستخدمة في أساطير الشرق وملاحمه، وقد لخصت الخاتمة: أهمّ النتائج التي تمّ التوصّل إليها، وحدّدت موقع البحث ضمن الدراسات المشابهة له.
