إن كثيراً من الناس يظنون أن تربية الطفل وتنشئته على الأخلاق الفاضلة تبدأ في السنة السادسة أو السابعة من عمره، وهذا خطأ، فإن تربية الطفل وغرس الصفات الحميدة في نفسه يبدأ في أول يوم من ولادته.
لقد ثبت طبياً وعلمياً في العصر الحاضر أن الحليب الذي يرتضع به الطفلُ ينقل إليه بعض الصفاتِ طيبة كانت أو غيرها، فالطفل الذي يرتضع من حليب أي إمرأة يتأثر ببعض صفاتها، ولكن هذا التأثر قلما ندركه بسرعة وربما لا يدركه إلا أصحاب الفراسة والخبرة.
ولقد كان الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وصحابته من بعده يدركون هذه الحقيقة؛ وقبل أن يكتشفها الطب الحديث؛ بأن الرضاع قد يحدث ويؤثر في شبه الأخلاق مثلما تحدثه الولادة من شبه الأجسام والأصوات، لعل ذلك مصداق ما روي عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: "لا تسترضعوا الحمقاء فإن اللبن يعدي" أي ينقل صفات صاحبه إلى نفس الطفل.
ومن هنا، ولأهمية موضوع الرضاعة من الناحية التربوية والنفسية والصحية، اختار الدكتور عمر الزيباري دراسة كتاب "الرضاع" ضمن كتاب "الحادي الكبير" للماوردي، لكون الماوردي أحد الفقاء الكبار، بالأحوال الشخصية، حيث عمل في سلك القضاء ما يقارب نصف قرن، فوضع في كتابه خلاصة علمه وتجاربه، فاكتسب أهمية كبيرة.
وعليه، جاء الكتاب في قسمين، ضم القسم الأول الدراسة التي اشتملت على ما يأتي: نبذة عن حياة المزني صاحب كتاب المختصر في شرحه الماوردي وسماه (الحاوي الكبير)، نبذة عن حياة الماوردي وشخصيته العلمية وأخلاقه وصفاته، بالإضافة إلى دراسة كتاب الحاوي الكبير وكتاب الرضاع بصورة خاصة. أما القسم الثاني: فتضمن التحقيق الذي اشتمل على نص كتاب الرضاع، بالإضافة إلى خاتمة ذكر فيها المحقق أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها، وفهارس علمية للكتاب.
