يدور موضوع الكتاب حول (الرضاعة والحضانة) في ضوء الشريعة والفقه وقوانين الأحوال الشخصية، ومسائل أخرى تعنى بشؤون الفرد منذ تصوره كائناً، إلى لحظة ولادته وحتى وفاته، مروراً بجميع الحالات القانونية والطبيعية التي تتصل بهذا الفرد.
يبدأ الكتاب بـ (باب الرضاعة)، فيبحث الموضوع من جوانبه كافة: الرضاعة لغةً وفي إصطلاح الفقهاء، شروط المرضعة وأحكام الرضاعة، ليلخص إلى أن الأم هي أفضل المرضعات، وبعد أن ينقل آراء بعض العلماء في الموضوع، يستشهد بحكم شرعيّ للإمام السيد الخوئي "أفضل المراضع الأم... ولا تُجبر الحرة على رضاع الولد"، ثم ينتقل إلى الحديث عن حكم إرضاع الأم وأجرة الرضاعة ومدتها الزمنية، التي يحددها بسنتين إستناداً إلى الآية الكريمة "والوالدات يُرضعن أولادهن حولين كاملين".
كما يتحدث المؤلف عن العوامل المؤثرة في الإرضاع الطبيعي، فيعتبر أن من أهمها الوقت الفاصل بين الولادة والرضعة الأولى؛ وفي الأبواب اللاحقة، ينتقل المؤلف إلى الحديث عن شروط الحاضن وأهلية الحضانة وشروطها، ويشترط في الحاضن أو الحاضنة توافر صفات معينة تتحقق بها الأهلية للحضانة، فإن اختلّت واحدة منها في شخص سقط حقّه فيها وانتقل إلى من يليه.
وفي هذا الإطار، يتابع المؤلف حديثه عن موضوع الحضانة، أحقّ هو أم واجب؟ وللإجابة على ذلك يستعين المؤلف بآراء الفقهاء في شتى المذاهب الإسلامية لتعزيز وجهة نظره في الكتاب، ليبحث بعد ذلك في العناصر الأساسية للتفاعل بين الطفل والأم، والعلاقة بين الطفل والأب، ويستطرد إلى حق الحضانة، لمن هو، في حال الطلاق أو وفاة الوالدين أو أحدهما؟...
وتعميماً للفائدة، أضاف المؤلف فهرساً للشواهد القرآنية والأحاديث الشريفة والأعلام الخاصة بالموضوع.
