يسلّط المؤلِّف الضوء في هذا الكتاب على إيقاع الحياة اليومية للفلسطينيين، في الأرض المحتلة، كاشفاً عن نمو المعاناة على الصعيد الفردي، والمهني، والاجتماعي، والسياسي، وما يتركه الواقع الاقتصادي السيّئ من تفكيك للبنى الحياتية، إضافة إلى ما يشهده الفلسطينيون، هناك، من العنف اليومي – بحقهم الإنساني – المتأصِّل في الاحتلال العسكري الإسرائيلي، إلى جانب الانتظار الذي لا ينتهي، والإحساس بالعجز والشلل بسبب الاحتلال، المقرون كذلك، بغياب الأمن، وفقدان أدنى مقومات الحياة.
ويكشف المؤلِّف جوانب التمييز العرقي والتفرقة العنصرية المقنّنة اللذين تمارسهما إسرائيل، كونهما واقعاً دائماً لا يمكن لمقاربة صادقة للصراع الإسرائيلي – الفلسطيني أن تتحاشى الاعتراف به، بل يتعيّن عليها أخذه في الاعتبار، وبالتالي، فإن السِّلم والعدالة لا يقتضيان مجرّد منح الفلسطينيين الذين يعيشون تحت الاحتلال وفي المنفى حقوقاً سياسية وحسب، بل يقتضيان تفكيك نظام التفرقة العنصرية المعمول به من قِبَل الإسرائيليين.
وما يزيد من أهمية هذا الكتاب، هو تلك المواكبة الرصينة التي تميزّ بها المؤلِّف للأحداث الراهنة، عبر الإجابة عن أسئلة محورية، تتناول الموقف من المفاوضات، وحل الدولة الواحدة، أو حل الدولتين، والمستوطنات اليهودية في الضفة الغربية، والانقسام في القيادات الفلسطينية، وسوى ذلك من أسئلة الحاضر والمستقبل، المشفوعين بمرارة سني الاحتلال، منذ العام 1948.
وقد تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى مقدمة، وأربعة فصول، وخاتمة؛ تضمنت أهم النتائج التي توصل إليها المؤلف، وقد جاء التوزيع على الشكل التالي:

-الفصل الثاني: "البواطن".
-الفصل الثالث: "من الخارج إلى الداخل".
-الفصل الرابع: "الوجه المعكوس".
