كان يحاول أن يُخرج ورقة من جيبه العلوي ناحية صدره، لكنه يخطئ مكان الجيب بحركته السريعة المتوترة كل مرّة، ولمّا أخرجها كانت مطوية مرتيّن كما تبدو، أمسك كف يدي اليمنى ووضع الورقة فيها، وقال: على ظهر هذه الورقة مدوّن اسمي، واسم والدي، وعنوان بيتنا، ورقم الهاتف. وتفاصيل أخرى قالها لكنني لم أستمع إليها جيداً. قلت على سبيل الاختصار: ما المطلوب؟ قال: أنا أريد أن أنتحر. ثم سكت لثوانٍ بدا فيها متأثراً. أكمل: وأريد شخصاً ثقة يوصل هذه الورقة لأبي... تدور احداث الرواية عن رجل يبحث عن طريقة للإنتحار ويطلب مساعدة رجل دين في ادراك هذا الامر.
