الدافع الرئيس الذي حثّني على تقديم تجربتي في الغرب في هذا الكتاب والكتاب الذي قبله، هو محاولة تقديم قراءة واسعة وموجزة عن وضع المسلمين في الغرب لمن يروم العمل في حقل الدعوة الإسلامية في هذه البلاد، فعند هجرتي إلى أوروبا في نهاية عقد الثمانينات وإنتقالي إلى الولايات المتحدة أواسط عقد التسعينيات، كنت أتمنى أن أعثر على دليل للداعية أو المبلّغ في بلاد الغرب يرسم خريطة الساحة الإسلامية في هذه البلاد ويضع المعالم الرئيسية لتاريخ الإسلام والأديان الأخرى فيها، ويقدم النصح لمن يريد ان يخوض تجربة الدعوة والإرشاد في هذه البلاد، ويبين له بعض أسرار هذه المهنة وتجاربها.
واليوم بعد مضي أكثر من عقدين من الزمن على عيشي في هذه البلاد وإكتسابي لبعض الخبرات المتواضعة في مجال الدعوة والإرشاد في خدمة الجالية الإسلامية بإتجاهاتها وأعراقها المختلفة، وبعد التعامل في مجال حوار الأديان ومجالات رعاية الشباب والأسرة التي هي جزء أساس من مهمة المنبر والمحراب في بلاد المغرب، شجّعني بعض أساتذتي الكرام على كتابة هذه التجارب والتصورات وتقديمها للجيل الناشئ الذي سيخلفنا في هذه المهمة الخطيرة وهي إيصال رسالة الإسلام إلى المسلمين وغير المسلمين في هذه البلاد العريضة.
