إن القافية ركن هام من أركان الشعر العربي، بل هي القمة الموسيقية لأوزان هذا الشعر، ولذا كانت دراستها مهمة جداً، بل واجبة على كل من يتعامل مع العمل الشعري من تأليف أو تحليل او نقد... فدراستها لا تقل أهمية عن دراسة الشعر الذي هو ديوان العرب دون ما عداه من فنون القول الأخرى.
ولما للقافية من الأهمية، نشر المؤلف هذا الكتاب بعد تهذيبه وترتيبه، وهذا الكتاب يعتبر صدفة حوت، درْا حيث إنه يتميز بعدة ميزات: أنه شرح (الكافي) بأسلوب سهل رصين واضح، مع تعليل المسائل وتبيين أوجهها، وتوجيهها التوجيه اللائق بها، وأنه شرح الشواهد شرحاً أدبياً نحوياً قافوياً، حيث يبين معاني المفردات بإستفاضة وإسهاب وإطناب، ثم يبين المعنى المراد من البيت، ثم يعرب بعض كلماته، وأخيراً يبين وجه الإستشهاد به في علم القافية، كما أنه نسب أكثر تلك الشواهد إلى أصحابها.
وأخيراً أنه اكمل المسائل التي رأى أن المصنف أهملها ولم يذكرها، إلى غير ذلك من المميزات التي دعت المؤلف إلى تحقيق هذا الكتاب، والقيام على خدمته بما يليق بمكانته.
