هناك العديد من المقالات والكتب والتقارير التي كتبت عن مشروع الشرق الأوسط الجديد.. ولكن اللافت أن هناك نقطة على قدر من الأهمية لم تأخذ حقها في البحث والتحليل كما يجب.. فالعدوان وقع على لبنان، وكان مخططاً له أن يقع على لبنان بالذات بالتنسيق بين الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وبدعم غربي وبماركة من بعض العرب للأسف الشديد.. ورايس وقفت في خضم العدوان لتعلن ولادة الشرق الأوسط الجديد.. فإذن الحرب هي من أجل هذا المشروع.. ومن هنا برز السؤال الذي تحول إلى فكرة هذا الكتاب وهو لماذا اختارت الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل ومن معهما ولف لفيفهما لبنان تحديداً دون غيره من دون المنظقة لإعلان العدوان من أجل تمرير المشروع؟ لماذا لم يتم اختيار إيران مثلاً أو سورية، وهناك الكثير من الذرائع التي يمكن أن تساق لتبرير العدوان على إحدى هاتين الدولتين أو غيرهما من دول المنطقة.. ولا سيما أن التجارب أثبتت أن أمريكا بارعة في تلفيق الذرائع وفبركتها، كما حصل مع العراق الشقيق، وقصة أسلحة الدمار الشامل المزعومة، والتي اعترف باول وزير الخارجية الأمريكي السابق، أنها لم تكن أكثر من كذبة صاغتها وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية الأمريكية، وقام هو بالترويج لها في مجلس الأمن وأروقه الأمم المتحدة وكافة أنحاء العالم بعد ذلك.
هذا هو السؤال الذي يحاول هذا الكتاب الإجابة عنه.
