منذ بداية عملية التسوية التي انطلقت مع عقد مؤتمر مدريد أواخر عام 1991، انشغلت الأوساط السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط بطبيعة التسوية الجاري فرضها للصراع العربي-الإسرائيلي وبمستقبل المنطقة في ضوء العلاقات الإسرائيلية-العربية، في مرحلة ما بعد السلام، وعلى الأخص بمحاولة صوغ نظام إقليمي "شرق أوسطي" جديد فيها، وستحاول هذه الدراسة أن تبحث في المشروع "الشرق أوسطي"، مركزه على سياقه التاريخي وأبعاده وأهدافه السياسية والوظيفية، والهياكل الارتكازية التي تجري هندستها للنهوض بهذا النظام. كما ستركز هذه الدراسة على المفهوم الأمريكي والإسرائيلي للنظام "الشرق أوسطي"، وكشف ارتباطه بقضية التسوية، وصولاً إلى البحث في التناقضات التي تعوق هذا المشروع.
وستعمد هذه الدراسة الإيجاز في متناولها لكل هذه المواضيع، وذلك من خلال طرح الأفكار مباشرة. والاكتفاء بالمراجع الأساسية التي تتيح للقارئ فهم المشروع المذكور من خلال الإدراكين الأمريكي والإسرائيلي والإحالة إلى المراجع التي من شأنها مساعدة الباحثين والمهتمين على تعميق معارفهم بالموضوعات المطروحة، في محاولة للمساهمة في إغناء النقاش حول هذا الموضوع.
