أولت الدراسات الأدبية الحديثة، بمذاهبها وتياراتها المختلفة، اهتماماً خاصاً بالخطاب الشعري، ودراسة عناصره ومكوّناته، وبنيته ووظيفته، وسماته الخاصة التي تفرقه عن غيره من أشكال الخطاب الأخرى. وقد أدى ذلك كله إلى تشكيل ركام هائل من التعريفات والمقولات والمفاهيم والمصطلحات والنظريات المتداخلة والمتشابكة. ولا شك في أن محاولة فك خيوط هذا الركام يشكل مغامرة معقدة، ومثيرة، وضرورية في الوقت نفسه، إلا أن ذلك ليس موضوعنا في هذه الدراسة التي لا نطمح من خلالها إلى أكثر من تسليط الضوء على بعض الملامح العامة للتحوّلات التي لحقت بعناصر هذا الخطاب، وتجلّيات هذه التحوّلات في قصائد عدد من شعراء الحداثة. وفي سبيل ذلك، سنعمد إلى دراسة عدد من مكوّنات الخطاب الشعري وخصائصه، لنتأمل كيف عالجها شعراء الحداثة، ونتتبع المال الذي آلت إليه في نصوصهم.
