ينهض هذا الكتاب برصد ملامح هرمينوطيقا فلسفية حاول بول ريكور استثمارها وجعلها أرضية لقراءة النص الديني.
تكمن أهمية هذه الهرمينوطيقا في المناهج الحديثة التي تمدنا بها من أجل قراءة تأويلية موضوعية-ذاتية للنص الديني تفك شفراته وتفتحه على عوالمه الخاصة سواء الداخلية منها أم الخارجية.
إن النص الديني لا يحيل على بنيته فحسب، بل إنه يحيل على عالم خارجي يريد الإندماج معه، إنه عالم النص الخارجي الذي يكشف عن بنية أخرى غير تلك التي يعبر عنها النص مباشرة.
كل قراءة للنص هي قراءات، وكل تأويل له هو تأويلات تحيط بالنص، ولا مجال هاهنا للحديث عن نص "أصلي"، كون الهرمينوطيقا تتجاوز هذا التوصيف، فجميع النصوص تتجاوز أشكالها نحو عوالم أخرى يخلقها القارئ بمعية النص.
لهذا السبب يضحي النص ملكاً للقارئ والمؤول، فما إن يخرج من بين يدي مؤلفه حتى ينزع عنه كل ملامحه الأولية، فيتفاعل مع الثقافة والسياق والتاريخ، وينتج معاني ودلالات جديدة قد لا تكون متضمنة فيه، إننا أمام فهم / إنتاج لنص جديد.
لا تركن الهرمينوطيقا إلى قراءة حرفية، ولا تدعي أنها تبحث في ثنايا النص، بل إنها تهدف إلى إعادة إنتاج النص وفقاً لسيرورته التاريخية؛ التفاعل بين ماضي النص وحاضره والفجوة الزمنية الفاصلة بينهما، إنها فجوة لا يمكن ردمها كونها تكشف عن غنى، لا محيد عنه، اكتسبه النص.
