لقد أصبح من نافل القول تأكيد العلاقة ما بين القرار الإداري الناجح واستخدام أساليب وتقنيات التحليل الكمي وتطبيقاتها في الإدارة والأعمال. إذ تلعب أساليب التحليل الكمي في الإدارة دوراً أساسياً في عملية اتخاذ القرار الإداري، وقد ازدادت أهمية تلك الأساليب مع التغيرات السريعة والتعقيد الشديد في بيئة الأعمال وندرة الموارد إذ أصبح من غير المعقول أن تتخذ القرارات بشكل عشوائي أو مرتجل، بل لا بد من دراسة مستوفية لكل قرار واعتماد وسائل كمية للوصول إلى القرار الأفضل الذي يحقق أعلى الأرباح في الظروف المواتية أو أدنى الخسائر في الظروف المعاكسة.
تأسيساً على ما تقدّم، يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى تزويد المديرين بالمهارات اللازمة لاستخدام التحليل الكمي في عملية اتخاذ القرار ومساعدتهم لكي يصبحوا صانعي قرارات منطقية وعقلانية. ويهدف كذلك إلى تزويد طلبتنا الأعزاء في تخصص ادارة الأعمال والاقتصاد بالمفاهيم الكمية الأساسية التي تساعدهم في وظائفهم كمديرين وموظفين كفوئين في المستقبل. وليس من توجهات الكتاب استخدامه من قبل المتخصصين الفنيين أو الرياضيين حيث كتب بطريقة تجعل القارئ لا يحتاج إلى خلفية قوية في الرياضيات، سوى الإلمام الأساسي بمبادئ الجبر الخطي (المصفوفات) هو أمر هاماً جداً وكمتطلب أساسي لفهم محتويات الكتاب.
