أصبح تدريس مساق "الجغرافية الكمية" أو "الأساليب الكمية في الجغرافية"، أمراً شائعاً في أقسام الجغرافية بالجامعات العربية.
ويعد ذلك المساق في الخطط الدراسية لمعظم تلك الأقسام مساقاً إجبارياً يتحتم على كل طالب أن يدرسه.
وتطرح الأقسام الرئيسة التي توجد فيها برامج للدراسات العليا، مساقاً آخر خاصاً بأساليب التحليل الكمي المتقدمة كالإرتباط والإنحدار المتعدد (Multiple Correlation & Regression) والتحليل العاملي (Factor Analysis)، والتحليل العنقودي والتمييزي (Cluster & Discriminant Analysis) وغيرها.
وقد شاع في السنوات الأخيرة إستخدام الأساليب الكمية في رسائل الماجستير والدكتوراه، إلى حد أصبح فيه إستخدام تلك الأساليب كأنه "موضة" تقيس مدى عمق الرسالة وجودتها.
وبالرغم من أن بعض تلك الرسائل كانت رسائل جيدة ومتميزة، إلا أن بعضها الآخر لم يكن موفقاً، وذلك لجهل الطالب بأساليب التحليل الكمي، أو لمعرفته السطحية بها، مما أوهمه أن مجرد إستخدام تلك الأساليب يضفي على رسالته هيبة ووجاهة هي في أمس الحاجة إليها.
