النخل شجر الجنة وهي أشرف الشجر وسيد الشجر، ثم أنه من أقدم الأشجار التي عرفها الإنسان وعاشرها على وجه الأرض، وهي شجرة العذراء مريم عليها السلام في قصة مولد المسيح عليه السلام، والنخل أشبه الأشجار ببني آدم.
يسرني أن أقدم إلى الباحثين والمهتمين بتاريخ العلوم العربية كتاب "أبحاث ندوة النخيل في التراث العربي" التي عقدت خلال الفترة 28- 30 آذار 2006م في معهد التراث العلمي العربي بجامعة حلب.
اشترك في الندوة /20/ باحثاً توافدوا من الجامعات والمعاهد ومراكز البحوث المهتمة بتاريخ العلوم عند العرب التابعة للدول التالية: العراق، سورية، تونس، فلسطين.
تناولت أبحاث الندوة الموضوعات التالية: النخيل في التاريخ، النخيل في اللغة والأدب، النخيل في كتب الطب والصيدلة والنبات، زراعة النخيل وتصنيع ثماره، الثمر غذاء ودواء.
ويسرنا أن نتوجه بالشكر الجزيل إلى إتحاد مجالس البحث العلمي العربية (الأمانة العامة / الخرطوم - السودان) على تعاونه في عقد تلك الندوة التخصصية في حلب.
ونتمنى أن تساهم أبحاث ندوة النخيل في إبراز دور النخيل تراثياً وحاضراً ومستقبلاً، وبيان مكانة العرب في علم النبات وتوضيح دورهم في التعريف بشجرة النخيل ودقة معرفتهم بالمنافع الغذائية لثمارها.
