لقد كان لـ"حنين بن اسحاق" مساهمات فعالة في حركة الترجمة العربية للمؤلفات الفلسفية والعلمية عن اليونانية، بخاصة، في بغداد في العصر العباسي في القرن التاسع من التقويم الميلادي. وقد مثل حنين بن اسحاق مدرسة خصصت لها الباحثة هذا الكتاب الذي ضمّ دراسة حولها، الغاية منها وضع هذه المدرسة ونشاطاتها في إطار الحركة التاريخية للترجمة، حيث تظهر الباحثة كيف استطاعت الحضارة العربية والإسلامية أن تساهم في عملية الترجمة ليس على مستوى النصوص المترجمة فقط، بل على العلوم ككل.
وقد حاولت الباحثة بيان آثار تلك الترجمات التي ما زال نبضها حياً إلى الآن، بمعنى آخر إنها ترجمات تحمل سمة المعاصرة بآلياتها وبغاياتها، كما أبرزت تأثير هذه الترجمات على ممارسة الترجمة نفسها. لتخلص إلى تلك النتيجة وهي أن هذه الترجمات ليست مهمة فقط باعتبارها وسيلة لنقل علوم الأقدمين إلى الحضارة الغربية، بل لأنها تقدم إسهاماً في عملية التفكير حول الترجمة.
