يشتمل هذا المؤلف بعد (مدخل تمهيدي) عن ماهية المأثورات اللبنانية من أقوال وأمثال، وتعابير شعبية، ورموز... مع شرح خصائصها ومميزاتها ودلالاتها، على قسمين: يشمل (القسم الأول) الجانب الدنيوي من الأدوار، ويتناول نظرة اللبنانيين في الحقبة المعاصرة، الى دور بلدهم التاريخي، باعتباره "ضرورة للعالم" وكل ما يتصل بذلك من مقولات ومفاهيم وإشكاليات.
ويعالج (القسم الثاني)، نظرة اللبنانيين الى دور بلدهم "كضرورة دينية وروحية للعالم"، على مر التاريخ.. باعتباره "أرض الإيمان والأديان والطوائف". وفي هذا السياق يلقي الكتاب الضوء على مكانة المقدس والروحانيات في حياة اللبنانيين، وما يعتري تلك المكانة من توجهات واعتقادات ومزاعم وشعائر وتقليدات. ويختتم الكتاب بمناقشة عامة تقييمية لإيديولوجيا الأدوار في لبنان وما يحيط بها من مأثورات وأقوال ووجهات نظر...
