«آثار الحقب في لاذقيّة العرب» مخطوط جديد يقع في جزءين لمؤلفه «العلّامة الياس صالح اللاذقي» (1938-1885)، يتناول تاريخ مدينة اللاذقية، بالارتباط مع لوائها من جهة ومع محيطهما وما حولهما من جهة أخرى؛ منذ أقدم العصور حتى أواخر القرن التاسع عشر؛ لذلك فإنَّ ما يحتويه له أهمية بالغة لاعتبارات كثيرة، يضيءى عليها د.الياس جريج في سياق تحقيقه للمخطوط، وإخراجه إلى النور، من أجل إغناء المكتبة العربية، وتزويد القارىء العربي، بهذا النوع من الكتابات التي تحمي الذاكرة من الضياع والنسيان.
يتضمن الكتاب الذي يلاحق الأحداث والتطورات خلال فترة الحكم العثماني خصوصاً، معلومات ومعارف لا حصر لها ولا عدّ، وهي تقسم إلى قسمين كبيرين: معارف جغرافية وأخرى تاريخية، وهي تؤلف مجتمعةً كلّاً موحّداً لا يتجّزأ.
لقد حدّد المؤلف بنفسه الغاية والهدف الذي أراده من كتابة مؤَلَّفه، بأنه: من أجل أن يكون لهذه المدينة تاريخ مكتوب ومجموع في كتاب واحد، يتناول أخبارها منذ القديم إلى اليوم... ومن أجل أن يستغني أبناء الوطن عن كثرة المراجعات ومشقّة البحث والتفتيش. وهو بذلك يكون قد ساهم في توحيد رؤيتهم حول ماضيهم وحاضرهم لتتوحد رؤيتهم وتوجهاتهم نحو المستقبل…
