بمقدور المرء أن يتابع حجم المواقف العربية المؤيدة والرافضة لمقولات الغرب الواردة في متن هذه الدراسة، وهي مواقف لا تؤسِس تناظراً أو تقابلاً بقدر ما تكشف عن الأثر المتبادل بين الثقافتين العربية والغربية على السواء، وتهتم ــ ما أمكنها ــ بما سيرد عليها من الصور دون سواها. وإن التناظر في المقولات بين الثقافتين الغربية والعربية ليس محور الاهتمام الرئيس في هذه الدراسة، فما يمكن الاهتمام فيه هو بيان الصور أو الظلال ذاتها، والتفسيرات والقراءات وردود الفعل النظرية والعملية الناشئة عن تأثير الوافد في الأنا العربية. فنكون عندئذ أمام مستويات مُتعددة من التَمثُّل الذاتي للوافد. ولا نشترط في التَمثُّل انعكاسَ الآخَر في الذات العربية، بل امتصاص ما يفيد الآخيرة من روح الثقافة المهيمنة. وما يفيد في فهم التمثُّل عموماً؛ بيان كيفية خضوع الآخَر لنظم متعددة من التفسير والإساءة في التفسير أيضاً، فالإساءة غالباً ما تُحدِد معنى ما هو مفيد ومرتجى من عملية التَمثُّل.
